Sharon Osbourne Still Hates Bruce Dickinson: “He’s a F***ing Asshole”

Εικόνα
Team Ozzy and Team Iron Maiden have a few issues stemming back to Ozzfest 2005, namely Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson . Basically, in 2005, the power was cut during Maiden’s last Ozzfest performance, which led to an extremely-negative crowd response (shocker!). Sharon Osbourne then took the stage and explained that it was because Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson had disrespected her husband throughout the tour and this was payback. In a recent interview with the Osbournes, Consequence asked Ozzy if he compared himself to singers like Bruce Dickinson and Ronnie James Dio . “Bruce Dickinson is a great singer, but as a person, I’ve worked with him, and he’s not very nice. Ronnie James Dio is no longer alive. He was a great singer. I didn’t really know him so well. I’m not one of these guys who says many things about people. The truth is the truth. I met Ronnie James Dio a couple of times. He took my [ Black Sabbath ] gig. But at the same time, I can’t complain because I did great

It’s not very often that death metal titans like Obituary put out a new record, but Dying of Everything is coming out on January 13 and we’ve got access to the first single “The Wrong Time” below. That’s right — don’t adjust your monitors — new Obituary. Right. Fucking. Now. The band themselves describe their forthcoming album as being in the same vein as early releases like Slowly We Rot and Cause of Death while maintaining a modern production value. “We couldn’t be more excited to finally get this new album out and into the hands of the fans! We chose “The Wrong Time” for the first single as it is a true depiction of the sound, style and feel we went for in the studio and is a great taste of what you can expect from Dying of Everything .” Dying of Everything will be the band’s first full-length studio release since 2017’s Obituary . And while this would be a huge occasion on its own for any Obituary fan, we’ve got our hands on an exclusive vinyl variant thanks to our colla

Former Queensrÿche Singer Geoff Tate Announces Operation: Mindcrime 35th Anniversary Tour

Εικόνα
Next year, Queensrÿche ‘s third studio album, the progressive metal masterpiece Operation: Mindcrime , turns 35 years old. To commemorate the milestone, original Queensrÿche singer Geoff Tate will embark on an anniversary tour, performing the album in full. So far, Tate has announced a 9-date UK trek for the performance, presumably with other dates to be announced in the future. When announcing the tour, he said: “It’s strange to think about, but this is my perspective. I wasn’t actually even gonna do it again. I get requests — so many requests — to play this record in its entirety… So Ahh… Okay. One more time, just one more time.” Operation: Mindcrime was originally released in May of 1988. It is a concept album that details the story of Nikki, a drug addict who is brought into a web of political assassins. It’s widely regarded as one of the best metal concept albums of all time and spawned a sequel album that was not nearly as well received. Tate was fired from Queensrÿche i

Hallowed Be Thy Game: Brütal Legend is a Love Letter to Heavy Metal

Εικόνα
(Editor’s note: Let’s face it — most metalheads are a buncha nerds. To that end, Hallowed Be Thy Game is a weekly feature here on MetalSucks where we’ll highlight some of the metal-as-fuck board/video/tabletop role playing games we’re playing or have played in the past.) As a lifelong gamer and metalhead, there have been very few moments where the Venn diagram of both those passions became just one circle. Sure, some games can be metal, but very few actually are metal . Few speak to our unmitigated love of the music — in fact, few developers even really understand what heavy metal is and what it means to people like you and me. So when Tim Schafer (no relation to Jon Schaffer ) and his company Double Fine Productions announced they were making an video game that paid tribute to heavy metal in all its forms, I was stoked. When Brütal Legend finally came out back in October 2009, I was excited but unprepared for just how metal a video game could actually get. For those that either w

Songs to Listen to as American Democracy Dies

Εικόνα
After months of insane rhetoric from both sides of the aisle, it’s finally election day. With scores of Americans heading to the polls that haven’t already cast their ballots, all that’s left to say now is “well, it’s been a good run America. So long, and thanks for all the fish.” If you’re of a certain mindset, today’s midterm elections feel like the end of an era as one side believes it’s saving the country from “Communists that want to make your kids trans” while the other side thinks this will be “the last American election ever” if the other side gains control of Washington. Apparently it’s all or nothing. Do or die. Don’t pass Go and don’t collect $200. And while you can point to a whole list of reasons why this all feels so pointless, I personally blame the January 6 insurrection as the tipping point. So to celebrate the apparent end of democracy, here’s a playlist that has absolutely no central theme to it all and has nothing to do with any disgraced fascist metal musicians.

Metallica, Ghost, Lorna Shore, and More Announced for Next Year’s Download Festival

Εικόνα
It’s beginning to look like next year’s European festival circuit is going to be absolutely monstrous, as the folks behind Download Festival 2023 have unveiled the four-day festival’s complete lineup. And while you’re not going to be shocked at all to hear Metallica and Ghost are going to be among the biggest acts on the bill, it’s the bands in between that should get you excited for this year’s event. More than 60 bands will make it to the stage between June 8 and 11 at Donington Park, Leicestershire. Some of the standout bands from that list include Behemoth, GWAR, and Municipal Waste. There’s going to be some form of metal to satisfy any fan’s personal tastes. Download Festival’s Andy Copping said this year’s festival marks two decades of its existence, so they had to add a fourth day to cram more music and fun in. “This year marks a huge milestone for Download, celebrating the incredible 20 years of the festival is no small feat. We really wanted to up the ante for this special

I Must Be Trippin’ Balls Because This Jerry Cantrell Video is So Effin’ Weird

Εικόνα
Okay, you assholes. Who dosed my afternoon whiskey with high grade psychedelics?! I’m still on the clock and I was going to write about the new Jerry Cantrell music video for “Prism of Doubt,” but what I just watched has to be the result of an acid flashback or I’ve been sabotaged. Jerry Cantrell’s Brighten came out last year and it’s easily one of my favorite releases from 2021. It’s a departure from his previous, more dark and melancholy solo efforts, but damn it if it wasn’t a phenomenal piece of art from front to back. When it comes to music videos for the album, I’d expect something like the video we got for “Brighten” or “Siren Song.” Those make sense. This rejected episode of Kablam! is just wild. There’s an impending apocalypse, melted Barbie dolls standing in as zombies, and a simulated alien orgy that would make perfect sense on a Team America sequel. Yep, even typing that out I feel like I’ve lost grip with reality. You can check out the video below and see for yours

Joe Biden to Crack Down on Ticketing Fees

Εικόνα
Joe Biden is promising to crack down on hidden ticket fees for concertgoers, but who knows if he will actually follow through, and if he does, if it will help. “I know hidden junk fees—like processing fees on concert tickets—are a pain,” he said in a Tweet, according to Metal Injection . “They’re unfair, deceptive, and add up. That’s why, last week, I called on my Administration to crack down on these fees and put that money back in your pocket.” We all know these fees can be annoying, and of course, in the capitalist hellscape we’re living in, any bit of money we can get back would be great. But a Tweet doesn’t mean Biden is actually going to take action, and there are other issues at play besides just hidden fees. Another major issue is the fact that there are only a handful of big companies who handle shows that aren’t local and DIY. And therefore, they control the fees and prices paid across the board. Some shows are so expensive even for the cheapest seats that fans have a ha

Coroner to Make a New Album After 30 Years

Εικόνα
If you’re a nerd for old-school, Swiss proggy thrash, it’s your lucky day. Coroner haven’t made an album in 30 years, but they’re about to change that. According to a recent interview with Blabbermouth , guitarist Tommy Veterrli says the band will start making their new record in February of next year. They haven’t released a studio album since Grin in 1993 (!!), and the new album is rumored for release sometime next year via Century Media Records. Veterrlie says the band is on a timeline that they absolutely want to meet. “All the songs have to be finished by mid-December. There’s one song missing. Pre-production needs to be finished by the end of the year. Then, I have recordings for the upcoming Eluveitie album. Ron (Broder, AKA Ron Royce, bass) and I are meeting today to make a plan. We will start recording. in the second half of February.” When asked about the new direction of the music, Veterrlie gave a somewhat cryptic answer, but a fair one when it comes to reflecting o

Machine Head Taps Havok’s Reece Alan Scruggs to Fill In During Current Tour

Εικόνα
When Machine Head kicked off their fall tour this past Thursday, fans were met with a slightly different lineup on stage, as Havok guitarist Reece Alan Scruggs was suddenly filling in for Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka. While this may cause some fans to question about whether there was another shake up within the Machine Head ranks, it ends up not being as dramatic as that at all. Apparently, Kiełtyka simply couldn’t join Machine Head on the fall tour because he already had touring commitments with his other band Decapitated. Looking at their itinerary, the soonest Kiełtyka could rejoining Machine Head for the “Electric Happy Hour” tour could be November 20 or 21, though Decapitated go back out on the road on December 4 for another small handful of dates. The question then becomes “is it worth it” to join for a short stint or do you just stay out of this tour and keep focusing on Decapitated. After it was reported over at Blabbermouth, Scruggs confirmed his involvement with Machine Head via

Skid Row Release “October’s Song” Video Just in Time for November

Εικόνα
Beloved, sleazy, classic metal icons Skid Row just released a new album, The Gang’s All Here, and to promote it, they released the single and lyric video for “October’s Song” on the first week of November. nice timing. While the record, and the featured song, in no way break new ground for the band, they solidify Skid Row as another legacy group capable of putting out solid music in 2022. How much longer they will be doing so, and whether this new record will stand the test of time like some of their earlier albums, remains to be seen. That being said, the record is topping charts worldwide, reaching the top 20 position in: Sweden (Hard Rock Charts), U.K. (Physical Album Charts), USA (Current Hard Music Albums), Switzerland, Spain, Canada, USA (Billboard Top Album Sales), Germany, Scotland, and Finland. That level of success shouldn’t be surprising, given their longevity as a band. They say regarding the success: “We’re really blown away by those sales chart positions around the

Chris Jericho Discusses Role in Terrifier 2, Grossest Kills and What Almost Made Him Puke on Set

Εικόνα
There’s no bloodier horror movie on the menu this year than Terrifier 2. The extreme slasher starts Art the Clown, a resurrected clown serial killer who delights in torturing and killing his victims in some pretty creative and fucked-up ways. Made on a very low budget of $250,000, Terrifier 2 features some of the grossest practical effects you’ve seen on the big or small screen. Metal and pro wrestling fans had an extra treat with a cameo from Chris Jericho . In a new interview with Screen Rant , the Fozzy frontman said that he was just a huge fan of the original Terrifier , which led him to connecting with writer and director Damien Leone, which led to a part in the movie, which you can watch below. The Painmaker’s scene is very, very tame compared to literally anything else in Terrifier 2 , but that didn’t stop him from wanting to puke while filming it: “In the film, I have to eat like, a zombie platter. It’s Halloween, so my wife has made all these zombie treats. And one of t

Andrea Ferro of Lacuna Coil Speaks on the Re-Imagined Version of Comalies, Comalies XX

Εικόνα
If you’re of a certain age, you’ll remember the early 2000s as an era where gothic metal exploded. Emotive yet epic, sprawling creations lined the walls of our mind’s eye, creating a memorable soundtrack for a period of our lives. For many of us, Lacuna Coil’s 2002 masterclass in alternative metal, Comalies , was an album not only to remember but to cherish. And indeed, it’s the record that kicked off the Italian-based warrior’s upward trajectory. Indeed, cuts such as “Heaven’s a Lie,” “Swamped,” and “Tight Rope” are as memorable as they are outstanding. What’s more, without Comalies , the inflection of an entire heavy metal scene might have trended in a wildly divergent direction. For Lacuna Coil co-vocalist Andrea Ferro, that impact wasn’t immediately apparent. “When we made Comalies , we didn’t realize the impact it would have on us. We were doing what came naturally and heading in a direction that our creativity took us. We never intended to change a scene or make a record that

Vended Drop Their New Single “Overall” with an Accompanying Music Video

Εικόνα
Vended , the band featuring Corey Taylor’s son Griffin and Shawn “Clown” Crahan’s son Simon, just dropped a new single and it sounds eerily familiar. Seriously, if you hit play on “Overall” and closed your eyes, you can hear bits and pieces of another Iowa-based band that some would say have already achieved “world domination” among some circles of metal fans. Even though Griffin and the others don’t want to be directly connected to Slipknot, it’s hard to not tie them together when the vocals sound like a younger Corey Taylor. Other than that, the music is pretty good. They may not fall too far from the tree just yet, but there’s definitely a streak in them that wants to break out from their fathers’ shadows. So yeah, check it out below and you’ll see what I mean. There’s no news on an album just yet, but this song, along with the band’s previous singles, are worth checking out. Vended are currently out on tour with Jinjer, P.O.D., and Space of Variations. If you want to check ’

Watch Puscifer Perform “Man Overboard” from Their Limited Concert Livestream

Εικόνα
This past weekend, Puscifer livestreamed a pair of concert/feature films titled V is for Versatile: A Puscifer Concert Film and Parole Violator: A Puscifer Concert Film Featuring Conditions of My Parole , featuring music from both of those eras. Originally, the streams started at October 28 at 3 p.m. EST and would only run for 72 hours, but that’s no longer the case, as the band has extended viewing times to November 7. As you can tell from the clip below, the streams were part concert performance and part feature film. According to the band, the streams went from “a ‘Hee Haw’-style jamboree to a televangelist revival, from sitting ringside at a Lucha Libre match to the advent of Agent Dick Merkin and the Pusciforce, Puscifer’s transition from live performances to film is a natural extension of the music-meets-acting troupe.” James Maynard Keenan said the pandemic allowed the band to accumulate the tools necessary to shoot such an event, having already released two other films.

Papa Emeritus IV Crop Dusts the Car and a Specter Sh*ts Himself in the Latest Ghost Video

Εικόνα
If you’ve been following along with Ghost’s occasional story videos over the years, you know they weave themselves pretty deeply into the band’s overarching lore. Last time we saw Papa Emeritus IV, he was doing some Mr. Miyagi shit on a beach and it was revealed that there’s a European Summer tour coming up, though no dates have been announced just yet. This afternoon’s video, released less than an hour ago, continues that story. In it, we watch Papa and Mr. Sultarian drive over to pick up Sister Imperator and the ghost of Papa Nihil, who “died” suddenly on stage. There’s brief mention of “Mary on a Cross” trending on TikTok and both Papas farting in the car, though Nihil somehow shit the seat. Weird for a ghost, I know. Ultimately, after some road games are played, Sultarian stops the fun and ends his statement with “the shows are scheduled — I now when your time is up.” Oh snap. Aside from being a “proper buzzkill,” could that also signal the impending end of Papa IV? Only time w
